Ireland sees lowest unemployment figures in 6 years

Xinhua, November 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ireland witnessed a continued fall in the rate of unemployment, which was down to 9.3 percent in October, from 9.4 percent in September, according to official figures on Wednesday.

The figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed that the number of persons unemployed was 203,000 in October 2015, a decrease of 1,900 compared to the September 2015 figure or a decrease of 24,900 when compared to October 2014.

"These are the lowest unemployment figures we have had in more than six years," said Ged Nash, Minister of State for Business and Employment.

"While I acknowledge that there is much more to be done to meet the government's ambitious target of full employment by 2018, we are certainly on the right track," he said.

Ireland's unemployment rate for October 2014 was 10.6 percent. At its worst, the country's unemployment stood at 15.1 percent in February 2012. Endit
