Despite state of emergency, no impact on tourists yet: Maldivian gov't

Despite State of Emergency, situation in Maldives remains calm and normal, the foreign ministry of Maldives said on Wednesday.

Through the official account of twitter, the foreign ministry said there are no restrictions on visitors for now.

Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen has declared a nationwide state of emergency for 30 days from 12:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, in view of threats to national security and public safety.

The Maldives military found an improvised explosive device on a vehicle parked near the presidential residence in capital Male.

The explosive device was designed to assassinate the president, home minister Umar Naseer said.

The military earlier seized weapons from an uninhabited island, included several hand guns, a T56 assault rifle and a MP5 sub-machine gun.

In addition, a large quantity of bomb making material was also discovered. Enditem
