Zambia's first lady mourns killing of Chinese nationals

Xinhua, November 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Zambia's First Lady Esther Lungu on Tuesday regretted the killing of three Chinese nationals by criminals.

Three Chinese nationals died while three others sustained injuries when criminals broke into their living quarters at their company in Kitwe city in Copperbelt Province last week. The criminals also got away with undisclosed amounts of money.

The Zambian first lady, who attended the cremation of the Chinese nationals, said the killing is regrettable and that Zambians are devastated at the gruesome murder, according to state broadcaster, the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation.

She however said the death of the Chinese nationals should not break the relationship between the two countries and assured that the government is doing everything possible to bring the culprits to book.

On Monday, the Zambian first lady visited the Chinese nationals who were injured in the attack at a local hospital.

Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Yang Youming, who also attended the creation ceremony, appealed to the Zambian government to arrest the criminals and take necessary action to safeguard the Chinese community.

Police have so far arrested three people in connection with the gruesome murder of the Chinese nationals.

Minister of Home Affairs Davies Mwila said the police have intensified investigations into the matter to ensure that all the culprits are brought to book.

The slain Chinese nationals owned a company called Golden King Investments, which deals in building materials and employees about 70 Zambians. Endit
