Ireland's new car registration records highest growth in 7 years

Xinhua, November 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ireland's new car registrations exceeded 2,500 in October, up 28 percent year on year, according to new figures on Monday.

The figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) showed that new car registrations for the year currently exceeded 120,000, up 30 percent on the same period last year.

However, both light commercials vehicles (LCV) and heavy goods vehicles (HGV) were down for the month of October, down 13 percent and 30 percent respectively.

The SIMI figures showed the five top selling car brands were Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford, Hyundai and Nissan.

The figures also showed the five top selling car models were Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus, Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Octavia and Ford Fiesta.

SIMI Director General Alan Nolan said new car registrations were continuing to perform ahead of last year, month on month, as the industry continued to strive towards a more normal level of business.

"With over 120,000 new cars registered by the end of last month, this represents the highest growth in new car registrations in seven years, as 2008 was the last year when sales were at sustainable levels," he said. Endit
