Ryanair, Europe's leading low-cost airline, on Monday announced an increase of 37 percent in its after-tax profits for the first six months to the end of September.
In its half-year results, the Dublin-based airline said its after-tax profits rose by 37 percent to 1.088 billion euros, while revenues for the six-month period rose by 14 percent to 4.04 billion euros.
Ryanair said it carried over 58 million passengers over the first six months of the financial year, up 13 percent over a year ago.
The airline said that in July it became the first EU airline to carry over 10 million customers in a single month.
"We have enjoyed a bumper summer due to a very rare confluence of favorable events including stronger sterling, adverse weather in northern Europe, reasonably flat industry capacity and further savings on our unhedged fuel," said Ryanair's CEO Michael O'Leary.
O'Leary said Ryanair will open 4 new bases and 119 new routes this winter. Endit
