Exercise Trident Juncture shows JFC Brunssum has ability to lead NRF in 2016: Commander

Xinhua, November 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Exercise Trident Juncture 2015 has provided a platform to show that the Allied Joint Force Command (JFC) Brunssum has the ability to lead the NATO Response Force (NRF) in 2016, a NATO Commander said in a press release Monday.

General Fernando Alejandre, the Deputy Commander of JFC Brunssum made the remarks when he visited troops deployed to the San Gregorio training area where they are taking part in Exercise Trident Juncture 2015.

Two NATO Joint Force Commands based in Brunssum and Naples take one-year turns to command the NRF, a highly ready and technologically advanced multinational force.

Alejandre also visited the Baltic Battalion, which is made up of troops from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

"What we have here is a complete multi-national battalion, deployed with a high capability and interoperability," said Alejandre, adding that "this is a clear sign that the three Allies can not only work together but also with other Allies."

The Live Exercise has kicked off on Oct. 21 in three different host nations, Italy, Portugal and Spain and will last until Nov. 6.

Over 36,000 personnel from over 30 NATO and partner nations are taking part in the exercise, the largest one conducted by the Alliance since 2002, which includes more than 140 aircraft and 60 ships. Endit
