3 wounded in Palestinian stabbing spree in central Israel

Xinhua, November 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

A knife-wielding Palestinian injured three Israelis in central Israel on Monday before being caught, police said.

Police said the suspect, a 19-year-old resident of the West Bank city of Hebron, went on a bus in central Rishon Letzion, a major city south of Tel Aviv, and started to stab passengers.

The bus driver opened the doors of the bus to let people escape. The assailant then stepped outside the bus, stabbing another person on the sidewalk and a third person who was trying to hide inside a clothing store. A woman managed to lock him in the store until the police arrived and arrested him.

The Israeli rescue service said two people were evacuated to a hospital in a serious condition, and a third person sustained light injuries.

The incident was the latest in a month-long wave of violence which has seen the death of 11 Israelis and more than 70 Palestinians.

On Monday morning, Israeli troops shot two knife-wielding Palestinians, killing one of them and wounding the other, after the two allegedly tried to stab a soldier at a checkpoint in the northern West Bank, according to Israeli police. Endit
