Philippines to implement no-fly zone at major airport during APEC hosting

The Philippine government said on Monday that no-fly zone will be implemented during the country's hosting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) later this month.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said the security measure will be enforced on November 17, 19, and 20 when heads of 20 other APEC member economies are expected to arrive and depart for the November 18 to November 19 summit at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

"Travelers are advised to take note of these advisories and plan their trips accordingly," he said in a media briefing in Malacanang, the presidential palace.

Nearly 400 domestic and international flights of the Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific will be cancelled on November 15 to 20.

Management of the two airline firms said passengers have the option to refund the full ticket cost or rebook their flights without any penalties. Endit
