More flights canceled as heavy fog hit Britain

Xinhua, November 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Thick fog continues to envelop parts of Britain on Monday morning, leaving dozens of flights being canceled in several airports across the country, local media reported.

Britain's Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for fog in England and Wales. In southeast England, the office also forecasts that widespread fog will linger in many places.

"Low cloud or fog, initially locally reducing the visibility to 100 metres or less, is likely to persist for most areas. If the low cloud and fog does clear in some places, warm or very warm sunny spells will occur," Met Office said.

About 45 flights from Heathrow Airport, 10 percent of departures, have been canceled this morning. And a "considerable number" of flights have also been canceled because of poor visibility at London City Airport.

It said flights have also been affected at Birminghan Airport, Manchester Airport and Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Drivers have also been advised to drive carefully due to heavy fog. Highways England said on its website that "Road users will need plenty of extra time to do their usual commute, especially as the fog is expected to lift very slowly during the morning." Endit
