Global car sales by South Korean automakers rose 8.7 percent last month as domestic car sales grew at the fastest pace in 2015, industry data showed Monday.
Global sales by Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, GM Korea, Renault Samsung and Ssangyong reached 315,245 vehicles in October, up 8.7 percent from a year earlier.
The growth was attributed to this year's fastest increase in local car sales, which surged 20.3 percent from a year ago to 140,106 units in October. Auto exports advanced 6.5 percent to 669,139 units in the same period.
Hyundai's newly launched passenger models of Avante and Sonata gained popularity in the domestic auto market, contributing to the rapid increase in domestic demand.
Avante was the most popular model in the South Korean market, with 12,838 units sold in October. The Hyundai model kept the No.1 ranking for three straight months. It was followed by Hyundai's Sonata with 10,487 units.
Hyundai's global auto sales climbed 6.3 percent on-year to 458,375 units in October, with local sales and exports increasing 16.7 percent and 4.7 percent respectively.
The No.2 carmaker Kia Motors saw its global auto sales jump 16.1 percent in October on a yearly basis, with local car sales and exports amounting to 46,605 units and 222,349 units respectively. Enditem
