Feyenoord sink to defeat at ADO

Xinhua, November 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Four days after the 1-0 win over Ajax in the Dutch Cup Feyenoord suffered a 1-0 defeat at ADO Den Haag in the Dutch league on Sunday.

After four league wins in a row and the joint top spot in the Eredivisie Feyenoord visited The Hague full of confidence, but the Rotterdam based side failed to impress. Both teams had one chance in the first half and ADO came close in the second half when striker Mike Havenaar headed on the cross-bar.

Feyenoord pushed ADO back in the remainder of the second part, but the home-team came in front. Feyenoord defender Sven van Beek completely misjudged a cross by Ruben Schaken and the ball went behind his own goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer.

Despite a red card for ADO forward Edouard Duplan for kicking Bilal Basacikoglu and with substitute Colin Kazim-Richards, Terence Kongolo and Simon Gustafson missing chances Feyenoord failed to produce the equalizer and suffered their second defeat of the season.

Ajax had an easy evening on Saturday in Amsterdam with a 6-0 win over Roda JC Kerkrade. Viktor Fischer, Arek Milik and captain Davy Klaassen all scored a brace.

Also on Saturday PSV came in front 3-0 at bottom-side De Graafschap in Doetinchem, but the home-team bounced back to 3-3. Luuk de Jong, Luciano Narsingh and Gaston Pereiro finally handed the reigning champions the 6-3 win.

Vitesse had no problems at Excelsior in Rotterdam (0-3), PEC Zwolle lost 2-0 at FC Groningen and on Friday Heracles Almelo beat Willem II 2-1.

Ajax maintained the lead in Eredivisie with 28 points from 11 matches, followed by Feyenoord (25), PSV (24), Heracles Almelo (24) and Vitesse (20). Endit
