Xinhua, November 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

A group of people have clashed with police in central London when the latter tried to stop an illegal rave, according to a statement released Sunday by Britain's Metropolitan Police.

Late on Saturday, police officers tried to close an illegal rave in Lambeth, cental London, but when they arrived, they were confronted by a large group of people outside the venue, according to the Metropolitan Police.

During this confrontation, a number of objects were thrown at officers, including one reported "petrol bomb", the Police said.

Fortunately no officers were seriously injured, but four are understood to have been treated for injuries at the scene, according to the Police. "There was one report of a member of the public, a man, being treated by London Ambulance Service."

As well as attacking police, the group also caused criminal damage to private vehicles and property in the area, the Police also said.

However, in a social media message, organizers of the event accused police of bashing people senseless.

Only till early this morning did the officers enter the venue and stop the event, and persons present in the venue were removed, according to the police. There were some further arrests, but details were not available when this article was filed. Endit
