Emirates Airline halts flights over Sinai after Russian flight crash

Emirates Airline, the state-owned carrier of the emirate of Dubai, said on Sunday it will halt flights above Egypt's Sinai Peninsula until further notice following the crash of an A321 aircraft of Russian airliner Kogalymavia which left 224 people dead.

Emirates, as well as Dubai's state-owned budget flyer flydubai have stopped flying over Egypt's Sinai, local daily Gulf News reported.

A spokesperson of Emirates, the biggest carrier in the Middle East, told Gulf News the airline decided to avoid flying over the Sinai Peninsula until "more information" about the cause of the crash is available.

Emirates usually flies over Sinai on routes in the Middle East and North Africa.

European carrier Lufthansa (Germany) and Air France said on Saturday they would avoid crossing Sinai skies.

All 217 passengers and the seven crew members of Kogalymavia Flight 9268 were killed in the crash on Saturday. The black box of the Russian plane had been found. Endit
