14 militants killed in N. Afghanistan

Xinhua, November 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

A total of 14 Taliban militants including a shadowy district governor were killed Sunday in northern Kunduz province as cleanup up operations are continuing in parts of the troubled province, a local official said.

"Security forces launched operations against Taliban hideouts in Nahr-e-Kohna village of Dasht-e-Archi district early Sunday and so far 14 rebels including Mullah Shakib the shadowy governor of the district have been killed," district governor Nasrudin Saadi told Xinhua.

Crackdown against militants would continue until peace and stability return to the district, he added.

Taliban militants are yet to make comments.

Afghan government forces after recapturing Kunduz city, capital of Kunduz province, 250 km north of Kabul in mid October, began attacking Taliban militants in their bastion in Dasht-e-Archi district and have evicted militants from major parts of the volatile district and the neighbording Chardara and Imam Sahib counties.
