1st LD: China-Japan-South Korea summit begins in Seoul

Xinhua, November 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

The sixth China-Japan-South Korea leaders' meeting started here Sunday, resuming the trilateral cooperation mechanism after a three-and-a-half-year suspension.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and South Korean President Park Geun-hye are expected to exchange views on trilateral cooperation and address issues of regional interest.

They are also scheduled to jointly meet with the press and attend a business summit.

The China-Japan-South Korea summit had taken place annually from 2008 to 2012 before it bogged down due to Japanese moves over historical and territorial issues that angered both China and South Korea.

The resumption came as relations between Japan and the two neighbors have started thawing. It also followed active coordination of South Korea, the rotating host of the sixth gathering.

In a recent press briefing, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin said the renewal of the trilateral summitry is of great significance to regional peace and stability, as well as Asian and global economic development. Endi
