Sao Paulo rout Sport, eye top-four finish

Xinhua, November 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Sao Paulo kept alive their hopes of qualifying for next year's Copa Libertadores with a 3-0 home victory over Sport Recife in Brazil's Serie A championship on Saturday.

Paulo Henrique Ganso opened the scoring in the ninth minute before his former national team colleagues Luis Fabiano and Michel Bastos also found the target either side of halftime.

The result at the Morumbi stadium lifted Sao Paulo to fourth in Brazil's Serie A standings while Sport remained seventh with five matches remaining.

The top four teams at the end of the season earn a berth in the Copa Libetadores, South America's top club competition.

In Sunday's fixtures, leaders Corinthians were due to travel to Belo Horizonte for a top-of-the-table clash against Atletico Mineiro while Santos were scheduled to host traditional rivals Palmeiras. Endi
