Xinhua, October 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Several Maldives nationals were arrested for suspected involvement in the failed assassination against Maldives President Abdullah Yameen last month, Malaysian police said Friday.

All the suspects were deported to their original country, Malaysian police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said in a statement.

The police counter-terrorism unit arrested a 47-year-old Maldives national who worked as an "investment ambassador" during a raid on a condominium in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, the statement said.

Four other Maldives nationals, including two men and two women aged between 28 and 38, were also arrested, it added.

Police said the operation was based on the cooperation with Maldives authorities.

Yameen escaped unhurt when an explosion ripped through part of the his yacht on Sept. 28, but his wife and two security officials were seriously injured.

Vice President Ahmed Adheeb was arrested for his alleged involvement in the attack. Enditem
