China hopes Vienna meeting on Syria paves ways for political solution

Xinhua, October 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

China has voiced support for a positive outcome from talks in Vienna on the Syrian crisis, a spokesperson said on Friday.

On Thursday, top diplomats from the United States, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey convened for the first round of talks in Vienna to discuss the settlement of the Syrian crisis.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong attended an expanded meeting on Friday in Vienna, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang confirmed during a press briefing.

The expanded meeting brought together diplomats from more than a dozen nations, including Iran.

China has always been committed to promoting a political solution to the Syrian crisis and supports mediation by the international community, Lu said.

"There is much support for a political settlement to the Syrian issue," Lu said, urging all parties to seize the opportunity to gather consensus so that the meeting in Vienna achieves positive results. Endi
