Military shelling kills 30 near Damascus

Xinhua, October 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 30 people were killed and many more wounded in military shelling on a rebel-held area east of the capital Damascus on Friday, a monitor group reported.

The shelling targeted the rebel-held town of Douma, one of the key bastions of the militant groups near Damascus, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Other activists said the shelling targeted a marketplace in Douma, adding that over 140 people were either killed or wounded.

The Syrian army has recently unleashed a wide-scale offensive against rebel-held areas east of Damascus, as part of a broad campaign in tandem with Russian airstrikes against the militants' positions across Syria. Endit
