New Zealand's indigenous Maori entrepreneurs will be looking to make inroads into the Chinese market during a high-level delegation that departed for the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong Friday.
Representatives of the Maori economy would look to build a sustained presence in China, said Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell, who is leading the delegation.
"Maori enterprises want to be serious partners with China and Chinese businesses," Flavell said in a statement on Friday.
The delegates, many are from companies already exporting to China, managed assets and businesses spanning tourism, dairying, fisheries, wine, horticulture, professional services and manufacturing.
Some of the largest Maori fisheries companies would participate in the China Fisheries and Seafood Expo in Qingdao Nov. 4 to Nov. 6.
The delegation would meet government and commercial leaders in Beijing, Qingdao, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
Totaling around 42 billion NZ dollars (28.36 billion U.S. dollars) a year and growing, the Maori economy had huge potential to contribute to New Zealand's future prosperity, particularly if it could maximize its export and innovation potential, he said. Endit
