Uganda premier league side SC Villa sack Spanish coach

Xinhua, October 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

SC Villa who will represent Uganda in the 2016 CAF Confederations Cup have sacked their Spanish coach Antonio Flores over poor performance.

The club that signed the Spaniard only four months ago terminated his contract on Wednesday because of poor results in the Azam Uganda Premier League.

Ivan Kakembo, the team's Chief Executive Office, said that they have parted ways with the coach.

"SC Villa and Antonio Flores have today reached a mutual understanding to end the latter's head coach obligations," said Kakembo.

The official however said Flores will still help the club to market players in Europe.

"We thank Mr. Flores for the time he has coached SC Villa and wish him the best in his coaching endeavors," said Kakembo.

Flores' sacking follows the team's 2-1 loss to Soana Fc on Tuesday in a League match. Last month Flores' assistant, also from Spain Francisco Martinez, had voluntarily left.

Flores has been in charge of SC Villa's six league engagements, winning and drawing two matches matches apiece, before losing three.

SC Villa who are Uganda's most decorated club are 13th place on the 16 team log with a mere eight points fetched in the seven league fixtures played so far.

In his tenure at the helm of the SC Villa, Flores also lost two cup finals in the Idd and Independence day cups to Maroons and KCCA F.C.

The club said assistant coach Ibrahim Kirya will be in charge. Endi
