The unemployment rate in Japan remained 3.4 percent in September, the same as the previous month, while the country's job availability hits a record high in over 23 years, the government said on Friday.

The number of unemployed people was up a seasonally adjusted 1.8 percent to 2.28 million, while the number of workers recorded a 0.4 percent increase to 63.99 million, according to a preliminary report released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Meanwhile, the country's job availability kept improving for the third straight month, and the ratio of job offers to seeker rose to 1.24 in September from 1.23 in August, marking the highest level since January 1992 when it stood at 1.25.

The figure means that 124 positions were available for every 100 job seekers. Enditem
