Cuban president to pay first official visit to Mexico

Cuban President Raul Castro will travel to Mexico on Nov. 5-7 for his first official visit to the country since he took office in 2006, Mexican Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

"This state visit has a special significance. It is part of a relationship that is charming for both countries and is currently going well following the relaunch that began between the two governments in November 2013," the ministry said in a press release.

Castro and his Mexican counterpart, Enrique Pena Nieto, will meet in the city of Merida, the capital of the southeastern state of Yucatan, where they are expected to discuss main topics in the fields of political and economic cooperation.

According to the press release, there are more than 30 new Mexican investment projects in Cuba.

Pena Nieto, of the centrist Institutional Revolutionary Party, revived Mexico's relations with Cuba in November 2013 after bilateral ties cooled between 2000-2012 when the conservative National Action Party held the Mexican presidency. Endi
