Egypt receives 4 U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets

Xinhua, October 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Egypt received four F-16 fighter jets from the United States, the Egyptian military said in a statement Thursday, as part of the continuing U.S. military aid to the country.

Egypt's military said the four jets, equipped with advanced fighting and raiding capabilities, were built in Fort Worth, Texas, and arrived in Cairo after a 14-hour journey.

Earlier in late July, Egypt received eight F-16 jets, together with follow-up support, maintenance and training for Egyptian pilots and ground crews.

Washington had frozen parts of its 1.3 billion U.S. dollars in annual military aid to Cairo since July 2013. The two countries' ties have improved since former military chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi took office in mid-2014.

Experts believe the United States resumed its support to Egypt to secure its interests in the Middle East due to Egypt's proven influence in the conflict-stricken region. Endit
