Mexican GP to be economic engine for Mexico City

Xinhua, October 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Formula One Mexican Grand Prix to be held on Sunday will bring economic benefits of some 400,000 U.S. dollars to Mexico City, local press reported on Wednesday.

According to local daily La Aficion, besides the economic benefits, the Mexican GP has also helped to create some 18,000 jobs.

After 23 years, Mexico City will host again a F1 Grand Prix. The economic benefits will be larger than those from the previous editions because the 2015 one has more sponsors.

Last year it was officially announced that Mexico would be included in the 2015 F1 season. Immediately after, the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, the Mexico City circuit, was remodeled.

A new control tower was built in accordance with FIA standards, as well as a media center with a capacity for 500 national and foreign journalists.

Mexican authorities said in the week before the competition, some 300,000 foreign and national visitors are expected to arrive in Mexico City.

Reports made by the hotel sector said 26,274 hotel rooms will be occupied by F1 staff and fans, bringing economic benefits for the sector. Endit
