Paraguay call up Argentina-born midfielder for World Cup qualifiers

Paraguay on Wednesday called up Argentina-born midfielder Hernan Villalba for their World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Bolivia next month.

The uncapped 26-year-old, whose father is Paraguayan, has been in impressive form this year for Argentinian outfit Newell's Old Boys.

He was joined by other first-time internationals Jonathan Santana (Cerro Porteno) and Juan Patino (Guarani).

Coach Ramon Diaz also included goalkeeper Justo Villar and striker Nelson Valdez, who both missed the team's opening two qualifiers due to injury.

Paraguay currently have four points in the South American zone standings after a 1-0 victory over Venezuela and 0-0 draw with Argentina.

Los Guaranies will face Peru in Lima on Nov. 11 before hosting Bolivia in Asuncion four days later.

Paraguay squad:

Goalkeepers: Justo Villar, Antony Silva, Alfredo Aguilar.

Defenders: Ivan Piris, Juan Patino, Bruno Valdez, Paulo Da Silva, Pablo Aguilar, Gustavo Gomez, Miguel Samudio.
