BiH to submit application for EU membership by December: official

Xinhua, October 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) will solve related issues and submit a credible application for EU membership by December, said BiH Presidency Chairman Dragan Covic here on Wednesday.

Chairman of the Council of Ministers Denis Zvizdic informed members of the BiH Presidency over the application, said Covic.

"I am confident that this is the right way to go," he said, adding BiH will be able to complete work on a mechanism of coordination among all levels of governments as well as other reforms.

Meanwhile, the EU will publish an assessment report in November over BiH's efforts to join the block.

BiH so far lagged behind its neighbors in joining the EU because of disagreements among three major ethnic groups, namely Bosniak, Serb and Croat.

The parliament in February adopted a reform plan over EU integration, as requested by the EU. In June, the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between BiH and the EU came into force, a major step forward over BiH's path to the EU. Endit
