Chinese ambassador congratulates Nepal's new president

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai congratulated Nepal's newly-elected President Bidhya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday evening.

On behalf of the Chinese government, leadership and the people of China, the ambassador extended wishes for the president's successful tenure, Nawaraj Gautam, an aide of the president told Xinhua.

Nepal's parliament on Wednesday elected 54-year-old Bhandari, vice chairperson of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), as the country's first female president.

She has become the country's second president after the Himalayan nation became a federal democratic republic in 2008 ending a 240-year monarchy. Endit
