Taliban militants overrun district in N. Afghanistan

Xinhua, October 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Taliban militants overrun Darqat district in the northern Takhar province on Wednesday, police said.

"Taliban militants after launching a well-coordinated attack overnight captured the headquarters of Darqad district at 04:00 a.m. local time today forcing government forces to retreat," provincial police spokesman Abdul Khalil Asir told Xinhua.

The official, however, didn't provide detail on possible casualties.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit, in contact with media said the Taliban after killing 12 police personnel captured Darqad district.

Asir said the government would soon launch counter-offensive to regain the district of Darqad from the militants. Enditem
