Vietnam's dengue fever deaths surge 76.5 pct in 10 months

Since the beginning of this year, Vietnam has seen some 47,000 dengue fever patients, including 30 fatalities, compared with the respective figures of 23,400 and 17 in the same period last year, the country's General Statistics Office has said.

In October alone, Vietnam reported over 14,100 cases of dengue fever infections, including 12 fatalities.

The country has so far this year witnessed 36,800 infection cases of hand-foot-mouth disease, including five fatalities, 805 cases of viral encephalitis, including 24 fatalities and 314 cases of typhoid.

Vietnam currently has 229,700 HIV carriers, of whom 79,200 have become AIDS patients, the office said, adding that over 80,000 AIDS patients have died as since the first HIV case was reported in the country in December 1990. Enditem
