Slovenia to take measures for faster refugee registration

Xinhua, October 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Slovenia will introduce a series of measures to speed up refugee registration and reduce the burden on its security forces and locals in the border area, Slovenian Press Agency (STA) reported Monday.

The main measures include performing registration on trains which arrive from Croatia and bringing in private security guards for some of the security tasks, STA quoted Slovenian Interior Ministry State Secretary Bostjan Sefic as saying.

Customs agents will be brought in to the registration centers and 200 people will be hired through a public works program to provide help at the centers.

The Interior Ministry made this announcement after Sunday's emergency EU summit in Brussels to bolster cooperation among the countries on the refugee route.

Slovenia has already received the first batch of aid in equipment from EU countries and expects around 400 police officers to help with protecting the border, as agreed at the summit, within a week.

Sefic said the country was also witnessing better cooperation with Croatia. Endit
