Czech police to guard Schengen border in Hungary on Nov. 1

Xinhua, October 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Fifty Czech policemen will get involved in the Schengen area border control in Hungary for one month from the beginning of next month, spokesman for the police presidium on Friday.

They will be in three localities along the Hungarian section on the Hungarian-Serbian border, said David Schoen.

One Czech police will patrol jointly with one Hungarian soldier and one Hungarian policeman. The Czech police officers should leave for Hungary between October 29 and 31.

The deployment of the 50 police was approved by Czech government earlier this week.

Czech police President Tomas Tuhy said that he is pleased that the project that he begun preparing together with his Hungarian colleague during his working trip in June has been given concrete outlines and that cooperation between Czech and Hungarian police will assume a new intensive dimension.

He said that Czech police will continuously evaluate the mission. If it proves effective, it is not excluded that Czech assistance on border control in Hungary will continue in the coming months.

More than two dozen of Czech soldiers have been deployed in Hungary since last week. They are mainly drivers and operating techniques.

They help Hungarian military in transporting materials and build the fence along Hungarian border with a ground machine, which is equipped with an auger and a pneumatic drill.

Czech military also provided ten field kitchens, a container transporter and one vehicle that serves as a mobile workshop for engineers to Hungary.

The soldiers will stay in Hungary until mid-December. Enditem
