Indonesia curbs plantation at peat land, deploys more troops to end forest fire

Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Friday ordered ministers to end issuance of license for the opening of plantation at peat land due to its vulnerability on fire.

He also asked the military to deploy more troops to extinguish the massive forest fire in the nation.

Widodo demanded ministers to revoke business permit of firms which more than 40 percent of their land are on fire.

The president gave the order as the country has been battling to douse massive agriculture and forest fire across the nation for weeks, most of which are at peat land.

"We must be stern. Those (peat land) which have not been opened are not allowed to open."

For palm oil plantation, the president told a cabinet meeting on mitigation of forest fire. Enditem
