Singapore president to make state visit to New Zealand

Xinhua, October 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Singapore President Tony Tan will visit New Zealand next week as the two countries mark 50 years of diplomatic ties, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key said Friday.

"Next month marks 50 years of New Zealand and Singapore's diplomatic relations and I am pleased we will mark this occasion with a visit from Singapore's Head of State," Key said in a statement.

"We have a close relationship with Singapore, New Zealand's seventh largest trading partner, buying over 1 billion NZ dollars (683.14 million U.S. dollars) worth of our goods annually and investing significantly in New Zealand."

It would be Tan's first state visit to New Zealand since he became the president of Singapore in 2011. Endit
