Singapore Jewelry and Gem Fair 2015 kicked off on Thursday with more than 100,000 pieces of fine jewelry by many reputable international exhibitors.
For the first time, the exhibition has set up a special zone to showcase Singapore's jewelry heritage to celebrate the country's Golden Jubilee.
The four-day fair presents fine jewelry in ten product-themed and country pavilions. Visitors will be able to enjoy the beauty of jewelry from Austria, Germany, China's Hong Kong SAR, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, China's Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and other parts of the world.
Organized by UBM Asia and exclusively endorsed by the Singapore Jewelers Association (SJA) and the Diamond Exchange of Singapore (DES), the fair offers a colossal constellation of fine jewelry from affordable everyday pieces to extravagant luxury collections.
One of the highlights of the jewelry fair is the largest matched pair of rare fancy vivid yellow diamonds traced from Australia's argyle mine. Named "Golden Light of Argyle", the two accompanying diamonds were polished from a gem-quality 15.40 carat rough diamond mined in 2012, with an estimated price of 1.5 million Singapore dollars (1.08 million U.S. dollars).
This year's fair features more than 24 Japanese exhibitors, a 50 percent increase over the previous edition. Known for their meticulous craftsmanship and fine precision, the Japanese jewelers not only put up popular Japanese corals and pearls at the fair, but also introduce visitors to "re-styled jewelry", a thriving trend in Japan gaining traction as a significant market segment.
On the first day of the fair, a total of 22 jewelry businesses in Singapore received the CaseTrust-SJA Accreditation Certificates, the first batch certified since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) and SJA in February 2015 to enhance the jewelry industry's business practices in Singapore.
In addition, the fair also presents a series of seminars on topics such as "Fluorescence in Diamonds" and "The Connoisseurs' Guide to Appreciating Jewelry". These seminars will leverage on the speakers' insights and expertise to cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation for jewelry amongst collectors and jewelry lovers. Enditem
