India has ordered 55 Mercedes-Benz luxury sedans to ferry foreign heads of state and heads of government in the upcoming India-Africa Summit, sources said Thursday.

Indian External Affairs Ministry has placed the order for the 55 E-Class sedans from the German auto maker, which will be employed in the service of foreign dignitaries after the India-Africa Summit is over, the sources said.

In a statement, Roland Folger, managing director of Mercedes-Benz India, has said: "Mercedes-Benz has always been the preferred luxury brand for Head of States across the globe including India, and we are extremely proud of this fact."

He added: "The mandate from the Ministry of External Affairs opting for the E-Class luxury sedan is a reiteration of the inherent strength of our product." Enditem
