Defending champions Nigeria eased through the group stage of FIFA U-17 World Cup, crushing hosts Chile 5-1 on Tuesday, local press reported on Wednesday.

Chile and Nigeria, from Group A, played on Tuesday night at Sausalito Stadium located in the Chilean costal city of Vina del Mar (center).

The nightmare of Chile started just one minute into the game, when Samuel Chukwueze opened the scoring for Nigeria.

Chile tried to make their short-shot play but Nigeria did not concede any space. The second goal of Nigeria was a penalty converted by Kelechi Nwakali in the 17th minute.

The host team did not give up and showed a better performance at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second one.

Despite of this, Nigeria scored the third and the fourth by Chukwueze in the 61st and by Osimhen in the 65th.

Chile got a consolation goal on 81 minutes by Marcelo Allende.

Funsho Bamgboye from Nigeria was expelled later but still Nigeria could score the fifth goal.

On Oct. 23, Nigeria, who has qualified to the next round, will play against Croatia in Coquimbo, while Chile will fight against the United States in Vina del Mar. Endi
