Tokyo stocks open lower on profit-taking, losses in U.S. shares

Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower Thursday as overnight losses in U.S. stocks promoted investors to lock in recent gains.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 30.58 points, or 0.16 percent, from Wednesday to 18,523.70. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange shed 4.15 points, or 0.27 percent, to 1,522.66.

Major decliners included brokerage, pharmaceutical and utility issues. Enditem
