Mozambican Paralympic athletes leave to Doha for world athletics

Xinhua, October 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Five Mozambican Paralympic athletes left Maputo on Wednesday to Doha, the capital of Qatar, to participate in the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics World Championships on Oct. 21-31, the Mozambican Athletics Federation announced on Wednesday.

The championships count as a qualification for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

"I am not a person who likes to go on promising, but I am confident that I will get something from the championships. I won't obviously do this alone. I expect to get support such as conditions for training," said Edmilsa Governo.

Governo will be running for the 200m and 400m categories, and she is so far one of the best representations Mozambique takes to Doha, after the gold medal she brought home from Congo Brazzaville during the All-Africa Games.

The first two positions of each event will get direct qualification to Brazil. Endit
