Slovakia to contribute to comprehensive nuclear test ban verification

Xinhua, October 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Slovakia will participate in the preparation of inspectors for the proposed Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO), as the Slovak Government approved an agreement with its Preparatory Commission (CTBTO Prep Com) on Wednesday.

Slovakia has supported the activities of the Preparatory Commission in carrying out its mandate to establish the system of monitoring stations and the training of inspectors.

In military training area Turecky Vrch in the Western Slovakia eight international field trainings, tests and courses for the future inspectors have been carried out.

According to Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak, it is also crucial to implement a system of verification of treaty adherence.

"Slovakia is ready to actively contribute to the creation of the needed verification regime," said Lajcak.

Slovakia is a long-time supporter of the treaty coming into force as soon as possible and signed the treaty on September 30, 1996 and ratified it on March 3, 1998. Endit
