Migrant arrivals in Macedonia surge to 5,700 daily

Xinhua, October 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

An influx of 5,700 migrants arrived on Wednesday in Macedonian transit camp in Gevgelija, near the border with Greece.

They are waiting to be registered before they continue their journey further north to Tabanovce, the crossing border with Serbia and then to EU countries.

In the last 24 hours, the Macedonian police have issued documents with the intention to give asylum to 3,257 migrants mainly arriving from Syria and Iraq.

Different means of transport like taxis, buses and trains sare used to transport the growing number of migrants. After they are sent to the transit center, migrants are provided food and clothes.

Since June 2015, a total of 161,692 registration papers have been issued by the Macedonian Interior Ministry's Asylum and Immigration Department. Endit
