Spain's Melia chain to adapt hotels for Chinese clients

Xinhua, October 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Spanish firm Melia rolled out plans to adapt its chain of hotels for Chinese clients, local media reported Wednesday.

Some 80 hotels -- 50 of them in Spain and other European countries such as Italy, Germany, France and Britain -- will introduce more Chinese TV channels, payment by Union Pay, more Chinese food as well as a training program for staff to assist clients in the Chinese language.

The initiative has been implemented in eight hotels located in the Asia-Pacific and also in Madrid and Barcelona.

Melia expects the number of Chinese clients to increase in the coming years. Nowadays, 5 percent of its clients worldwide are Chinese, and 2 percent are Chinese clients in its Spanish hotels.

The company has two hotels in China and expects to open six more by the end of 2017. Endit
