1st LD: Syria's Assad makes rare visit to Moscow, meets with Putin

Xinhua, October 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad made a very rare visit to Moscow on Tuesday and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the first declared visit the embattled Syrian leader made since the beginning of the Syrian conflict, state news agency SANA said Wednesday.

Al-Assad visit came upon the invitation of Putin, during which both sides discussed the ongoing military operations against the terror groups in Syria, said SANA, adding that Assad informed Putin with the plans of the Syrian army.

Both leaders also discussed the ongoing Russian airstrikes in Syria, and the Russian support to the military operations of the Syrian army.

The rare visit holds its significance as it constitutes another sign of how far the Russians are willing to support the Assad administration.

Russia's airstrikes started pounding the militant groups' positions across Syria on September.30, with Syrian government officials hailing the Russian move as efficient in the war against terror. Enditem
