France summons Russian envoy over plane incident

Xinhua, October 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

Russian ambassador to France was summoned Tuesday in Paris to protest "inaccurate information" about what Moscow described as "dangerous proximity" of French Air force jet with Russian plane carrying parliamentary delegation, a local TV channel reported.

The news channel BFMTV quoted Romain Nadal, the foreign ministry spokesperson, as saying that Alexandre Orlov, Russian envoy to France, was received in the Quai d'Orsay to reaffirm that "no French military aircraft had been involved in an airplane incident with a Russian plane."

France also regretted that its ambassador to Russia was summoned on Monday by Russia "on the basis of the inaccurate information," Nadal added.

Russia initially summoned the French envoy in Moscow to protest, accusing that a French military jet had come into "dangerous proximity" with the jet carrying a Russian parliamentary delegation.

In a joint statement issued on Monday, French foreign and defense ministries said "the necessary clarifications are being made with the Russian authorities."

Late on Monday, the Swiss defense ministry said a Swiss fighter jet performed a routine identification check on a Russian plane that day. Endit
