U.S. drone makes emergency landing in southern Turkey

A U.S. unmanned aircraft had to make an emergency landing in southern Turkey near the border with Syria on late Monday, local media reported on Tuesday.
The drone, part of a U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State (IS), made the emergency landing near Kirikhan town of Hatay province bordering Syria due to technical failure, Hurriyet Daily News quoted military sources as saying.
The coalition forces use key Incirlik airbase for airstrikes against the IS militants in Syria, and the U.S. has deployed many aircraft, including drones, on the airbase.
Turkish fighter jets recently shot down a drone within the country's airspace in Kilis province.
The drone was Russian-made, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Monday.
The move came after twice incursions into Turkish airspace by two Russian fighters on Oct. 3 and 4 strained Ankara-Moscow ties.
Turkey joined the U.S.-led air raids on the IS in July. Endit
