Chinese Youth Games may be hit by typhoon Koppu

The 1st National Youth Games, which opened Sunday in China's Fuzhou, capital city of Fujian Province, might be hit by typhoon Koppu.

Typhoon Koppu, the 24th typhoon of the year, was hoving over the northeast of Luzon in the Philippines on Tuesday morning and it is expected to move north from Thursday and batter China's southeastern regions.

The Fuzhou Weather Bureau issued a strong wind alert earlier Tuesday, and it said the wind will be especially strong in the coastal area.

Sports like sailing, archery and softball are expected to be affected by Koppu, and the organizing committee has made full preparation.

The schedule of sailing has already been shortened, and officials of archery and softball said they will pay close attention to the route of Koppu and have made plan B.

Reports said Typhoon Koppu has killed at least 11 people in northern Philippines with thousands of others being evacuated.

The National Youth Games is the biggest multi-sport games ever held in Fuzhou, which attracted around 7,900 athletes from 55 delegations across the nation competing in 305 events of 26 sports in 10 days. Endi
