An Israeli man was killed on a West Bank highway on Tuesday in an apparent run-over attack, the Israeli police said.
The incident took place on route 60 near the West Bank city of Hebron. Police spokesperson Luba Samri said in a statement that stones were thrown at the Israeli man's vehicle.
The 50-year-old Israeli then stepped out of the vehicle and was run over. He was critically wounded and later died.
Israel's Army Radio reported that a Palestinian truck driver turned himself in to the Palestinian police, and said he hit the man by accident.
Just a short while before the incident, an Israeli officer was slightly wounded in a stabbing attack by a Palestinian man in the southern Hebron Hills in the West Bank. Security forces shot and killed the Palestinian stabber.
Palestinian media outlets said the Palestinian man was killed during a protest near Beit Awwa in the West Bank in clashes following the demolition of Maher Hashlamoun, a Palestinian man who killed an Israeli woman in stabbing attack last year.
With that, the Israeli police announced on Tuesday it is planning to make hundreds of arrests in East Jerusalem in the coming week for those who threw rocks and firebombs at Israelis, acting Police Chief Benzi Sau told reporters on Tuesday.
According to police records, nearly 500 Palestinians from East Jerusalem have been arrested in the past several weeks for throwing rocks and firebombs.
Tuesday's attacks occur amid a wave of violence between Israeli Jews and Palestinians, which claimed the lives of eight Israelis and at least 42 Palestinians.
The violence was sparked amid strife over a holy East Jerusalem site, and spread into the West Bank, Gaza Strip and across Israel, with Palestinian committing stabbing and shooting attacks against Israeli Jews, and clashes between Palestinians and Israeli security forces.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon made a surprise visit to the region on Tuesday in a bid to quell the unrest, and will hold separate meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Endit
