Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Tuesday commended Chinese private entrepreneurs' contribution to the reduction of poverty and the building of a well-off society.

Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks at the fifth congress of China Society for Promotion of Guangcai Program.

Established in 1994, the Guangcai Program was initiated and implemented by private enterprisers to alleviate poverty.

Yu urged those from the non-public sector to take up their social responsibilities, helping to reduce poverty and boost development in poor rural areas, which is beneficial to the nation, the Chinese people as well as their enterprises.

Yu stressed governments and committees of Communist Party of China (CPC) at all levels should adopt more effective measures to support the Guangcai Program.

The united front work departments and federations of industry and commerce at all levels should enhance guidance to the entrepreneurs and create favorable circumstances for the program, added Yu.

Ma Kai, Chinese Vice Premier, and Sun Chunlan, head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, also attended the meeting. Endi
