Kenyans reign over Buenos Aires marathon

Kenyan runners showed their supremacy on Sunday in the city of Buenos Aires' marathon by winning all three podium positions in the 42.2 kilometres (26.2 miles) competition through the streets of Argentina's capital.
Jonathan Cheeso won the race in two hours 12 minutes and 24 seconds followed by his compatriots Julios Walhome and Daniel Rono.
Argentinian runner Luis Molina, who classified for the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), came in fourth place.
The marathon, which has been taking place annually in the Argentinian capital since 1984, had the record amount of 11,225 runners participating in the race. This figure increases every year.
Out of the total competitors, more than 2,500 runners came from 55 countries outside of Argentina.
In the woman's category, the winner was Abeba Gebreme from Ethiopia. She completed the race in 2 hours 30 minutes and 31 seconds, a record in Argentinian marathons. The Ethiopian only won by one second over Kenyan Beatrice Toroitich.
The competitors had a cloudy but fresh day for the race which passed by the city's strategic and symbolic points.
Among the sites included in the race was the Palermo neighborhood, the centre, the Obelisk, May Square, Boca Juniors "La Bombonera" soccer stadium, Puerto Madero and the Buenos Aires Cabildo Museum, among others. Endit
