Maltese FM expresses solidarity with Turkey

Xinhua, October 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Maltese Minister for Foreign Affairs George W. Vella has on Saturday expressed his solidarity with the people of Turkey over the devastating bomb attacks that took place in Ankara.

In condemning the attack, the minister stressed Malta's continued support to those determined to address violence and extremism in Turkey as well as the broader Mediterranean region.

Vella also fully endorsed the message issued earlier by the High Representative of the European Union (EU) Federica Mogherini and Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, which reiterated the EU's commitment to a strong engagement with Turkey.

The death toll from twin blasts in the Turkish capital Ankara on Saturday rose to 86, while 186 others were injured, the Turkish Health Ministry said.

The explosions hit a train station where several unions, civil society organizations and pro-Kurdish People's Democracy Party were due to hold a rally, private Dogan news agency reported. The rally aimed at protesting conflict between the state and Kurdish militants in southeast Turkey. Endit
